Tumescent Liposuction

It also constricts blood vessels, thus minimizing bleeding, bruising, and discomfort..

Smart or Laser Liposuction

In this procedure, a laser probe is passed under the skin to melt fat. The dissolved fat will then be suctioned out via traditional lipo. Take note that it is only used for small volume lipo because large volumes can cause dangerous seroma formation. It only requires local anesthesia and produces minimal downtime.

Candidates for Male Liposuction

How do you know if you’re a good candidate for male liposuction?

First, you should be in an overall good state of health before the surgery. If you have any chronic illnesses, they should be well-controlled before your licensed physician gives you clearance to undergo an elective procedure.

You should also have realistic expectations of your results to avoid disappointment. Results vary depending on several factors like age, weight, skin type, and general health. You can discuss your expectations with your plastic surgeon to make sure that you can achieve them.

Since lipo isn’t a weight loss procedure, you should first be within or close to your ideal weight and body mass index before getting the procedure. You should also have elastic skin in the areas you wish to treat if you don’t want to end up having sagging skin afterward.

It is also important that you’re willing to make a lifestyle change. After getting lipo for men, you should maintain your results by engaging in a healthy lifestyle of diet, sleep, and exercise.

Liposuction Recovery

Immediately after your surgery, you’ll feel some degree of pain, soreness, and discomfort. It will last for about a week, but you’ll be prescribed with pain meds to help you manage your pain. It’s also important to have a friend or family member to assist you during the first 24 hours post-op.

Although you should rest after your procedure, it’s important to start walking as soon as you can to help enhance blood circulation and avoid the formation of clots.

You’ll also experience swelling, which will subside over the next three to four weeks. You might be asked to wear a compression garment for about four to six weeks to control swelling. You can usually go back to work within a week.

Your shape will continue to improve as you heal, and you’ll start to see the final results of your lipo in about three to six months.

But remember, even if lipo for men removes existing fat cells in certain areas of your body, you still have to engage in a healthy lifestyle to maintain your results. That includes a healthy diet and an exercise regimen.

Cost of Male Liposuction

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, liposuction costs $3,374 on average.

But take it with a grain of salt because the fees can vary widely depending on anesthesia, facilities, medical tests prescriptions, and your plastic surgeon’s fee.

Though insurance companies seldom cover male liposuction, be sure to ask your plastic surgeon about flexible financing options that he can offer.
